Duties and Purpose
 
Purpose: Be responsible for the overall conduct of the regular worship of the congregation, and any special services that may be held from time to time, providing for all necessary aids in the conducting of such worship.
Membership: At least two members of the Session and other members from the congregation at large.
 
Duties:
  • Attend to the physical arrangements for worship, including the placement of flowers and other decorations, and the provision of hymnals, Bibles and other worship aids.
  • Decoration of the sanctuary for seasons of the year.
  • Notify secretary when supplies need to be purchased, e.g. candles.
  • Encourage the participation of the congregation in sharing worship leadership.
  • Recommend to the Session guidelines for the conduct of special services, such as weddings and funerals.
  • Set dates and make necessary arrangements for special worship services such as the picnic, youth Sunday, laity Sunday, etc.
  • Supervise and recommend guidelines for the music program.
  • Keep the church’s musical instruments tuned and in repair.
  • Maintain and purchase new music, choir robes and other items necessary for the music programs.
  • Work with the Personnel Committee in hiring and supervising music staff.
  • Provide ushers and greeters for all worship services and instruct them in their duties.
  • Schedule and train volunteers to prepare communion.
  • Work with the Pastor to provide materials for instructing baptized children in the meaning of the Sacraments.
  • Arrange pulpit supply in the absence of the pastor.
  • Present a budget each year to the Stewardship and Finance Committee.
