Andrew Steele is working on his Eagle Project for Boy Scouts. His project is to improve the landscape at the front of the church in order to make it more inviting and maintenance free. He will be scheduling work days to remove existing plants, install new shrubs and flowers  and install brick pavers. He will be looking for volunteers to assist in this effort as well as financial support to purchase materials. If yu want to assist or need more information, please contact him. There is also information posted in the Narthex on the project.

Did You Know?

Labor Day is Monday September 1st. The first Labor Day was celebrated in New York City on September 5, 1882 as a way of promoting a day off for working citizens by trade and labor organizations. It was meant to celebrate the economic and social achievements of American workers with parades and speeches. It was made a national holiday by Congress in 1894. Today it is viewed as a day off, marking the end of the summer, and in some areas of the country the start of a new school year.

Food for Thought

God created everything in heaven and on earth in six days (see Genesis 1). By the end of the sixth day God had finished the work and declared it all very good. On the seventh day God rested. God did not rest becasue He ws tired but because His creative work was complete. God blessed the seventh day and made it holy because on it He rested from all the work of creating He had done. "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. (Exodus 20:8-9). This is the 4th Commandment given to Moses by God on Mount Sinai. In our rhythm of work and rest in the service of God, we are to follow God's example.
